FIFPRO World 11 Shortlist: Ronaldo, Messi Join Other World Cup-Bound Stars
The 2025 FIFPRO Men’s World 11 finalists were announced, with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo making the prestigious list once again. These football legends, along with other top players like Ousmane Dembele and Lamine Yamal, have been recognized for their outstanding performances in the 2024-25 season.
The FIFPRO World 11 is unique as it is decided by professional footballers themselves, setting it apart from other awards like the UEFA Men’s Team of the Year which is fan-voted. The finalists were selected based on votes from their fellow players, with criteria including a minimum of 30 professional matches played between July 15, 2024, and August 3, 2025.
The final World 11 lineup will consist of one goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders, and three forwards, with the official announcement scheduled for November 3. Messi and Ronaldo, two of the most decorated players in FIFPRO World 11 history, are on track to add yet another accolade to their illustrious careers.
Messi’s nomination comes on the back of his impressive performances for Argentina and Inter Miami, including securing a spot for his national team in the 2026 World Cup and winning the MLS Golden Boot. Meanwhile, Ronaldo’s stellar goal-scoring record for Al-Nassr and Portugal has put him in contention to join Messi at the upcoming World Cup.
Other notable nominees include PSG’s Dembele, who clinched the 2025 Ballon d’Or, and Barcelona’s rising star Yamal, recognized for his contributions to the team’s success in La Liga and the Copa del Rey. The full list of nominees showcases the top talent in football across various positions, highlighting the best players in the world as chosen by their peers.
