Czech Coach Ivan Hasek Fired After Loss to Faroe Islands in World Cup Qualifying

Last Updated: October 26, 2025By

The Czech Football Association made the decision to dismiss coach Ivan Hašek after a disappointing 2-1 loss to Faroe Islands in World Cup qualifying. The defeat prompted the Czech FA to announce that a new coach would be appointed to lead the team for the remainder of the qualifying campaign, with a foreign coach likely to take over permanently.

Former Czech star Pavel Nedvěd has been tasked with compiling a list of potential candidates for the coaching position. The unexpected defeat to Faroe Islands, a team with a small population of 55,000, marked a significant setback for the Czech team in their quest for a major tournament qualification.

Despite the setback, the Czechs still have a chance to qualify for the 2026 World Cup by defeating Gibraltar in their final match on November 17 to secure second place in Group L and advance to the playoffs. Under Hašek’s leadership, the Czech team was eliminated in the group stage of the 2024 European Championship but achieved success in the Nations League by winning their group and advancing to the top Ligue A.
