Qatar and Saudi Arabia Qualify for 2026 World Cup
Qatar and Saudi Arabia have both secured their spots at the upcoming World Cup after finishing at the top of their groups in the fourth round of Asian qualifying. Qatar emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over the United Arab Emirates, while Saudi Arabia settled for a 0-0 draw against Iraq.
This achievement marks a significant milestone for Qatar, who had previously struggled in the 2022 tournament as hosts. On the other hand, Saudi Arabia, set to host the 2034 World Cup, will be making their seventh appearance next summer in North America.
Qatar’s coach, Julen Lopetegui, expressed his joy at the team’s success, calling it an incredible day. Lopetegui, who had a tumultuous experience with Spain in 2018, now has the opportunity to lead his team at another World Cup.
In a thrilling match, Qatar secured the top spot in Group A, leaving the UAE to face Iraq in a playoff. Saudi Arabia also clinched their group with a crucial draw against Iraq, ensuring their place in the upcoming tournament.
Japan and South Korea, who have already qualified for the World Cup, showcased their strength in friendlies against South American teams. Japan made history by defeating Brazil for the first time, while South Korea secured a solid 2-0 victory over Paraguay.
