Thailand Hires Former USMNT Interim Coach Anthony Hudson
Thailand’s Men’s Soccer Team Appoints Anthony Hudson as Head Coach
Thailand’s men’s soccer team made a significant coaching change by hiring Anthony Hudson, the former manager of New Zealand and the Colorado Rapids. This decision came swiftly after parting ways with Japanese coach Masatada Ishii.
Hudson, who previously served as the interim coach of the U.S. men’s soccer team for four months in 2023, has been involved with Thailand’s soccer association as the director of technical development since last year.
In a statement, association president Nualphan Lamsam emphasized the importance of having someone well-versed in Thai football, citing Hudson’s extensive experience and involvement at various levels within the association.
The 44-year-old Hudson, son of former Chelsea star Alan Hudson, previously coached New Zealand from 2014 to 2017 and led the MLS’ Rapids from late 2017 to May 2019. His first challenge as Thailand’s head coach will be an upcoming 2027 Asian Cup qualifier against Sri Lanka in November, with Thailand currently in second place in Group D.
The appointment of Hudson brings a mix of international expertise and a deep understanding of Thai football to guide the team forward.
